An IT employee was allegedly molested on Monday evening on a footbridge in Sukantanagar near Nicco Park. She was lucky to find a police patrol team at the spot, members of which later arrested the accused.

Sources said the survivor was returning to her Sector III guest house from Sector V when the accused, Karan Mondal, behaved in an indecent manner on the iron footbridge located at Sukantanagar. When she protested, the accused started taunting her. The woman then shouted for help and the officers inside the police-patrol vehicle immediately arrested Karan.

The incident has left the Salt Lake citizens with one question, is excessive monitoring of the footbridges connecting Lake Town to Salt Lake’s AC, AD and AE blocks taking toll on policing within the township and near the footbridges connecting Sector III and Sector V. The location is important as a host of institutions, including JU and NIFT, are lined up on the other flank of Sukantanagar footbridge.

Bidhannagar cops said better policing can be arranged in sectors III and IV, but with a limited resource, they are forced to prioritize.
