“DEBI” – Set against the backdrop of this festive season.

Tollywood gifted us with five unique films – Rajkahini, Kathmandu, Sudhu tomari jonye, Cross Connection-2 and Byomkesh this Durga Puja. But with the celebrations kicking off in West Bengal, a short film “Debi” has started catching eyeballs on Youtube.

Filmmaker, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury who  won the national award for his films  Antaheen and Anuranan released his short film solely on the digital dais  . It is titled “ Debi ”a story on restoring memories set against the backdrop of Durga Puja. It is shot in the heritage buildings of Lahabari and the bylanes of North Kolkata.

The film summarizes the magnificence and tradition of the festival of Durga puja while the story revolves around Anuradha played by the national award winning actor Ananya Chatterjee who returns to their age old mansion after staying abroad for twenty long years along with her daughter played by the popular playback singer Monali Thakur. The film with a fast pace in its edit is bound to connect the audiences emotionally with the brilliant camera work that sparkled the festival of Durga puja exceptionally well. The film also stars Koushik Banerjee and Arjun Chakraborty.

Debi released in a digital platform and nothing could have been a better option for the filmmaker to connect with the huge number of people worldwide, especially with the Bengali diaspora for the homecoming during this period of the year  which holds an extraordinary sentiment. Narrating a complete story within a short span of 13 minutes is not that easy. Execution of such a narrative by the director shows his  tremendous effort he had put in assembling the scenes together within few minutes.

Anupam Roy beautifully composed the music of the film while bengali poet Srijato has penned down the lyrics for “ Debi”. The film is a unique masterpiece and a combination of poignant sensations, the director presented us in this season. It is a must watch film.
