Interview Session with Rahul Arya

1. Tell us about your childhood.
A:  Born in Delhi; I knew, I’m an Artist since childhood, just took 20yrs. to prove rest of the world. A backbencher in studies; somehow managed to get decent grades.

2. What made you choose to be a sand artist leaving your build up career?
A: Frankly; Never knew how it will gonna turn out if I choose Sand Art, considering I had a Safe career. I’ve started drawing on the Car Wind Shields. You won’t believe, neither does my neighbors.Slowly took off the childhood hobby to different scale; and managed to make myself a wooden Lightbox at merely 2000Rs. Rest is a matter of Trial & Error. You gotta keep trying; someday all the hardwork paysoff.

3. Who has been your inspiration?
A: My mentor would be Shahrukh Khan; as his struggle inspired many people like me. I’ve grown up watching his Success and Failures too. The way he handles failure.

4. How did you parents support you?
A: Well; Family is always a constant backbone in your career path. School days it is much easier; as everyone encourages you in your so called ‘Hobbies’. But as teh time pass by; Art is still not considered as a Proper suitatble career for longer Term. I had to finish my Engineering; My Masters from IIT Bombay before setting up my Art Studio.

5. How did “Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega” changed your career?
A: In a lot many ways. People in Wizcraft plays a huge role in my career. You should never forget the first ladder you climbed upon. Well, I started doing professional Sand Art since 2007, but my major breakthrough was when I won ‘Entertainment ke liye Kuch bhi Karega’, a SONY TV show, post which my association with Wizcraft built stronger. In our society Event Industry was considered lower, as being Doctor, Engineer & IITian considered more reputed. I had to go through a difficult time to convince all & give my 100% dedication to what I believe in; regardless of fear of success/failure. “When your loss is big, then your success will be bigger” is something I say and uphold.

6. Tell us about “Flying Rock”
A: Flying Rock is like my baby. The Name:  “If you look closely, Earth is a flying rock in our galactic space. And so are all the planets & their moons, which are actually rocks flying in our Universe”. It all came from that idea. Flying Rock Studio was credited in a full feature length Bollywood film in just 3 months of its inception.

7. We say “Sand slips from hand”. But how do you command sands?
A: Yes, Sand is a difficult material to handle with. Basically; I’m a Storyteller. I wanted to get a medium to tell my stories more appropriately. I don’t have a command over Sand; maybe Sand has a Command over my Hands. *wink

8. What is your point of view on an artist – who is an aritst to you?
A: I believe we all are an Artist.
An Artist is someone who narrates his/her emotions through any medium which touches others Heart; it can be music/ Song/ Lyrics/ Dance or PAinting etc.”

9. What do you want to convey through your art?
A: A Story

10. You are a motivation for today’s generation. You have set an example that there are things apart from studies and lectures. What would you like to say about it?
A: Firstly, I never did anything to become inspiration. Unconciously I just kept on doing what my Heart says, Thius is the Right thing to do. May it be Peshawar Attack, Nepal Sand Art or SRK to Women Sand Art. For eg. My Peshawar Attack Tribute has got humongous success with lakhs of views, even when India & Pakistan were not in good terms, but people in pakistan have welcomed a small Sand Art Tribute with open arms; as titled ”Indian Artist Tribute to Pakistan”. Hence, If you genuinely believe in your work, it will connect to the audiences heart.

11. Any message for your fans.

A: Well, My Dad is my sole inspiration whom I lost recently. My every story has a message, mostly influenced how my dad used to see the world.
It is OK to   ” LET IT GO, if its yours it’ll come to you anyhow.  “

12. Any message for LaughaLaughi
A:  If your ambition is to stay Long in this race; Stick to your Team always.
