A ‘Googly’ Birthday wish

Today marks the day when the first electric traffic signal was installed on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland, Ohio, way back in 1914. The first electric traffic light was developed in 1912 by Lester Wire, a policeman in Salt Lake City, Utah, who also used red-green lights. On 5th August 1914, the American Traffic Signal Company installed a traffic signal system on the corner of East 105th Street and Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.

Wednesday’s Google doodle offers a glimpse of what American traffic would have looked like 101 years ago when the World’s first electric traffic signal was installed. The biggest technology pro of today, Google remembers this historic day by a black and white doodle with the red-green lights of the traffic signal being the centre of the attraction. Vintage cars, three at one end and there on the other, with alphabets G O O G L E on them move across the streets following the traffic signal rules.

Speedy traffic flows in when the signal turns green and halts when the signal turns red, reading GOOGLE. A single click on the doodle directs us to the query page and fills us in with the desired information.

No Birthday is complete without a cake and this time, Google added the icing and cherry to the cake with a perfect vinatge doodle with a touch of modernity and technology to get the day kick started.
