Badhaai Ho!

‘Badhaai Ho’ is a 2018 Indian commercial (Hindi language) film. This film is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma. It releases in India on 18th October and running time is 123 minutes. In this movie we have stars like Ayushmann khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta in lead. It is produced by Vineet Jain, Hemant Bhandari, Aleya Sen under the banner of Junglee pictures and Chrome Pictures and is written by Shantanu Stivastava and Akshat Ghildial. It is one of the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2018.

The main protagonist of this film is Priyambada, a middle age mother of two sons and a homemaker. Priyambada, aka Bubbly leads a happy life husband Jeetender with her two sons Nakul (25 years old) and Gulair (17 years old) and a mother-in-law. Nakul and his office colleague Renee take a serious step in their love relationship when she meets him with her mother. Everything fits in it place until one day they get to know that his mother, Priyambada is pregnant.

Though they have the time to abort the child still her mother chooses to give birth. Complications start when their neighbors get to know about the pregnancy, their taunts and useless taking make Nakul restless. As the movie forwards we see how their family cope up with this situation and how their inner bond strengthens against such oddities.

Ayshmann Khurrana (Nakul) does a fantastic job in his role as well as Sanya Malhotra (Renee) does. But both Neena Gupta (Priyambada) and Gajraj Rao (Jeetender) in leads just steal the limelight. They redefine the role of parents once again with great acting skill and easiness. Their acting reflects another aspect of parenting such naturally that we hardly shift our focus from them. Another character which needs a huge mention is Surekha Sikri. She acts with such easiness in this age that one feels wonder about. The screenplay is also good.

The first half of the story has its pace, but the second half is a little bit slower in comparison. The story itself is interesting, it depicts another good and important question to society, how a pregnancy affects a family when the parents have it in the middle age? Also, the inner meaning of the movie is probably how the ocean of complication does not move a parent to abort their child by the social pressure.

Though they can easily do so, but they choose to give the baby birth. It is wonderful to see such topics come on board when the issue of embryo killing is a big issue. The inner bond of a family is strengthening up during such complicated situation and the director represents this so skillfully.

The director should be appreciated to represent such a serious topic under the mask of a comedy. Though the middle climax part is a little slow. Still it is a good film to watch which will both make you laugh and think about so many interesting topics.
