Raat Akeli Hain- A thriller movie with a dramatic touch

Raat Akeli Hai is a Hindi languaged crime thriller which is released on Netfilx. It is a good attempt from debutant director Honey Trehan with his two leads- Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. The story of this suspense thriller has been surrounded around a murder case of an aged landlord named Raghuveer Singh who was killed on his wedding night. This suspense thriller follows a small town cop Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who was summoned to investigate the mysterious case.

Raat Akeli Hain also plots some social issues like racial discrimination, child sexual abuse, patriarchy etc. outstandingly. Radhika Apte delivers a praiseworthy job as Radha, the mistress turned widow of the victim. The suspense of this movie remains the viewers glued till the end. The murder mystery successfully triggers the thrilling experience of the viewers at every moment. Every member of the victim’s family is a suspect. At the end, we will experience that the blind love of a mother towards his son can be venomous for others. In a brief, Raat Akeli Hain is a crime thriller movie with a dramatic experience.

Despite so many characters, Raat Akeli Hain carries simplicity of the storytelling. All the casts have also done a great job. Radhika Apte amazed me at every single time. Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sweta Tripathi were the stand out performers. Aditya Shrivastav as MLA Munna Raja was also outstanding. The on screen chemistry between Nawaz and Radhika was remarkably eye catching which will keep the viewers adhered to the screen.

Nawazuddin’s character in Raat Akeli Hain is really interesting. It has two features. On the one hand, we see him as a confident cop. Some dialouges like “Naam yaad rakhyaga, inspector Jatil Yadav” , “Aur agar ek bar dimag thanak gaya na” , “Sach kahin se bhi khod nikalegenge, isko chinta aap na karein” proved his confidence. On the other hand, he is insecure about his complexion. We see him concerned about his appearance and the fact that he is unmarried. The brutish inspector becomes fastidious when it comes to his look. Also, the growth we witness in Nawaz’s character is worth mentioning. He finally throws his fairness cream away and accepts himself as he is.

After Paatal Lok, Raat Akeli Hain is definitely a sincere attempt where a ordinary police inspector delivers his detective skill to solve a tedious murder case. However, the climax is little bit confusing. Some characters like SSP are underdeveloped. The movie is well written but some scenes are unnecessarily stretched. Nevertheless, if you like crime thriller movies, then Raat Akeli Hain is definitely for you.
