Divorce

These days, people are taking marriage and divorce all very lightly, not realising the consequences following those events especially the impact on children. Married couples today are getting divorced due to  different reasons such as a spouse having an affair, loss of romantic feelings, conflicts in the marriage, the social evil of dowry system that is still persistant to some extent and other types of problems. Most divorces involve children that are really young and due to their age they don’t have any idea on how to deal with this type of situation.

Although, divorce really is not a good thing, sometimes it can be positive too; such as children being happy mentally , parents being happy and allowing them to mature. Parents being separated can be better for the kids because then they do not have to deal with the parents fighting. If they are put in a better and stable environment, it can affect them in positive ways too. Sometimes it is also healthy for the child if they have earlier been subjected to an abusive environment such as the parent, brother, sister or themselves being abused. If parents are happy then more than likely the kids are happy too because the children look up to their parents. Not many divorces end well or even start of in a good way but it can be a better thing for everyone in the family depending on the situation.

Divorce can be negative causing alienation whether it is children losing their self-esteem, at times becoming snobbish and abusive, not being able to trust anyone, indulge in parental favoritism or even financial instability. Children seem to loose their self-esteem due to the lack of relationship with a parent. The kids also start blaming themselves for the cause of the divorce and thereby  gradually turn psychic. For not knowing and/or understanding the real reason, it results in puttin additional stresson the child.

Children seem to be insecure and afraid for what the future beholds. They question their future due to the instability they’ve experience and may think that they will never have a real family again. If sadness goes on for too long it can lead to much stress and depression. Anger plays a big part because if the child doesn’t fully understand or agree with the divorce, it can cause them to act up. Being put under a lot of pressure causes them to do more than they need to do like helping around the house rather than doing what children of their age are supposed to do. They start hiding their stress by always keeping themselves busy by getting engaged in bigger responsibilities. Emotions are things that every person has no matter what it is but sometimes kids need to talk to someone so they can express their feelings.

It is the duty of the parents that when finally they plan for a divorce, they need to consider their children first as well as the long term effects it may have on anone and everyone involved in it. Proper counselling and support from family members can ease the situation and it may so happen that parents cancel the plan for divorce and give a second chance to their relationship for the sake of their children. Divorce can be an easy option but the entire life and career of the offspring remains at stake. So its always a better option if the parents walk hand in hand and give their children what they actually deserv-a happy and healthy family life.
